Lead Project Superintendent

Overview

The Lead Project Superintendent is responsible for providing comprehensive, strong, supportive and thoughtful leadership to the project field staff to ensure the safe practice, successful planning, and completion of various construction projects in accordance with the contract documents, in a quality manner, on schedule, within budget and in accordance with the company’s Core Values.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide oversight and expertise in the design and planning of construction projects to ensure quality, timely and cost-effective construction.
  • Create and manage the overall site logistics requirements in conjunction with project schedule and local jurisdictions.
  • Study and evaluate contract drawings, shop drawings, and specifications to fully understand design criteria and successfully complete the project build.
  • Review preliminary drawings for cost control, assist Project Manager in budget preparation and in the analysis of potential construction techniques.
  • Lead the scheduling process to include creating the preliminary schedule, finalizing the project schedule, and maintaining/updating the schedule throughout the build.
  • Ensure ongoing review of manpower requirements throughout the project to meet completion date.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers regarding constructability, cost of construction, and material selections on construction projects, beginning with design and throughout construction.
  • Ensure that field records are being properly maintained (i.e. daily reports, weekly job visit reports, safety reports, test results, job schedules, quality assurance reports, etc.)
  • Monitor construction productivity and evaluate trade sequencing and coordination to ensure schedule adherence.
  • Consistently review schedule(s) and confirm key project delivery dates to ensure on time completion of the project.
  • Monitor progress to ensure agreed upon milestone dates and client expectations are met.
  • Continually review construction techniques to drive improvement of existing methods.
  • Assign, supervise, and mentor Superintendent/field staff in the successful completion of duties.
  • Actively participate in the development and promotion of project safety requirements and programs, mentor and assist field staff with proper implementation and documentation of safety practices and procedures.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality assurance programs for all aspects of construction (i.e. subsoil, foundation, concrete, steel, floors, pavement sections, roofing systems, waterproofing, HVAC, etc.) in conjunction with project staff.
  • Establish and manage the punch list process to ensure quality assurance goals are met.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
  • Conform to company apparel standards and set a positive example for all Associates.
  • Perform all other duties as directed and assist the overall team effort in any way possible.

 

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related area is preferred. Additional construction related courses from a vocational or technical nature are preferred.

Experience: Ten years’ supervisory experience in the construction field with a focus on large residential, commercial and industrial building projects required.

  • Thorough knowledge of construction scheduling principals with the ability to lead and direct project scheduling requirements.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, with the ability to proficiently operate or learn Phoenix scheduling software.

 

Attendance: This full-time position is exempt and requires the ability to be present and available during business hours to meet company and department needs. Additional hours or flexible schedule may be required.

Working Environment: This position takes place in a construction environment that involves hazardous work conditions requiring protective equipment and training that conforms to OSHA and applicable State Agency regulations. Some physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, and noise may occur.

This position also requires:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • May require individuals to furnish their own vehicle to transport customers, tools and/or supplies to and from the office and assigned project(s).
  • Ability to lift, push and pull a minimum of 20 pounds.
  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
  • Fluency in English both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Successful completion of an OSHA 30-hour safety course (must retake course every five years, dates will be determined by most recent completion date)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certifications
